The Luxembourg Space Agency has embarked on a unique collaboration with Luxembourgish artists, exploring the universe through the art of serigraphy. This project brings together creativity and space exploration, translating complex scientific and technological themes into visual narratives that engage, inspire, and provoke reflection.
Luxembourg has established itself as a forward-looking hub for space activities, combining innovation, research, and a commitment to sustainable practices. The country has become a notable player in satellite operations, space resources, and international cooperation, fostering a space ecosystem that emphasizes responsibility, safety, and long-term vision. The collaboration features eight Luxembourgish artists — Julie Wagener, Lionel Demarville, Lisa Junius, Alain Welter, Irina Moons, Anne Mélan, Jeff Poitiers, and Spike — who were invited to interpret themes that have become essential in contemporary space activities: in-orbit operations, lunar exploration, planetary defense, sustainable use of resources, talent development, innovation in science and technology, and international cooperation in space. While these subjects are critical today, they also raise broader questions about ethics, sustainability, and humanity’s role beyond Earth. By inviting artists to explore these topics, LSA creates a dialogue between scientific ambition and imaginative insight.
Together, the artists present a diverse array of approaches and styles. Julie Wagener explores human activity and robotics in orbit with layered, figurative imagery, while Lionel Demarville blends pop culture and detailed illustration to imagine sustainable lunar settlements. Lisa Junius creates dreamlike protective compositions for planetary defense, and Alain Welter employs playful, ironic imagery with humanized animals to reflect on the ethical use of resources. Irina Moons emphasizes imagination and inspiration for future generations, showing space as a source of wonder and creativity, while Anne Mélan combines surrealist and realist elements to link technological innovation with life on Earth. Jeff Poitiers captures curiosity and exploration through bold design and abstract forms, evoking the transformative potential of science and technology.
