Space Resources
Spaceresources.lu Initiative
Luxembourg’s SpaceResources.lu Initiative establishes the nation as a global pioneer in the legal and commercial exploration of outer space. By leveraging its history in satellite communications and a robust regulatory framework, the initiative aims to facilitate the sustainable and peaceful use of space resources to drive future high-tech economic growth.
Resources in space
Beyond our planet lies a wealth of untapped resources—from the mineral-rich regolith of the Moon to metal-heavy asteroids. As space agencies and private companies move from exploration to extraction, these celestial bodies offer the water, energy, and raw materials essential for sustaining human life and fueling our journey deeper into the cosmos.
Commercial uses
The space industry is shifting from government-led missions to a dynamic commercial marketplace. As private companies lower launch costs and pioneer technologies like in-space manufacturing, the focus is moving toward harvesting celestial resources to sustain human life and deep-space habitats. However, this new era of exploration requires more than just technical innovation; it demands a clear international legal framework to secure property rights and encourage long-term investment in the stars.
European Space Resources Innovation Center
Luxembourg has positioned itself at the forefront of the orbital economy through the European Space Resources Innovation Centre (ESRIC). Established in partnership with the European Space Agency, ESRIC serves as a unique international hub dedicated to the scientific, business, and legal aspects of space resource utilisation. By fostering research and supporting commercial startups, the center is building the foundation for a sustainable in-space economy and the future of human exploration.
