Exobiosphere

Core business

Exobiosphere is a space biotech developing autonomous laboratory platforms for drug discovering in space. By combining high-throughput micro-fluidics, advanced instrumentation, miniaturized robotics, the company enables pharmaceutical, biotech, and healthcare partners to generate biological insights that cannot be replicated on Earth while shorten R&D timelines and bringing safer, more effective treatments to market for patients worldwide. Located at the House of BioHealth in Esch-sur-Alzette, Exobiosphere’s mission is to extend and improve life on Earth and in space.

Products and services

Exobiosphere provides end-to-end services for autonomous biological research in space, supporting customers from experiment design through post-mission analysis. Our services include:

  • Assay development, miniaturization, and adaptation for microgravity

  • Payload integration and biosafety compliance

  • Mission planning and launch logistics

  • Autonomous in-orbit experiment execution

  • Sample recovery and post-flight analysis, including multi-omics profiling and high-content imaging

Powered by our Orbital High-Throughput Screener (OHTS), partners can perform more than 2,000 automated experiments per mission on 6 standardized well plates, the platform enables preclinical screening, disease modelling, and compound validation with greater efficiency and reproducibility.

Technical means

The OHTS is a compact, fully autonomous laboratory designed for biological research in microgravity. The platform combines nanoliter liquid handling, environmental control, high-resolution imaging, automated workflows, and AI-enabled data analysis in a modular, space-qualified system. Compatible with standard multiwell plates (384–1536 wells), the OHTS enables thousands of parallelized experiments during a single mission while supporting real-time monitoring, automated media exchange, compound delivery, and sample preservation for post-flight analysis. Its standardized workflows generate high-quality datasets for pharmaceutical and biotechnology research.

Main customers

Exobiosphere works with pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, healthcare AI companies, research institutions, and space agencies seeking to accelerate and improve drug discovery and biomedical research through space-enabled experimentation.

Major space projects

OHTS is flying aboard the International Space Station and with Vast on Haven-1, the world's first commercial crewed space station, with orbital missions planned for 2027. On Earth, Exobiosphere collaborates with Cedars-Sinai, the University of Notre Dame, the European Space Agency, and the University of Luxembourg to advance space-enabled drug discovery, organoid research, neurodegeneration studies, and AI-driven disease modelling. Together, these initiatives are establishing Europe's first end-to-end space drug discovery pipeline.
