About the National Graduate Trainees (NGT) Programme 

Coordinated by the Luxembourg Space Agency (LSA) in collaboration with ESA, the National Graduate Trainees (NGT) programme (formerly known as LuxYGT) is an initiative aimed at recent graduates holding a Master's degree.

It offers participants a 12-month experience at the European Space Agency (ESA), which can be extended for an additional year. This initial professional experience is designed to help graduates acquire practical expertise in fields such as Earth observation, satellite communications, robotics, space economy, space safety…

Over the course of the year, students typically work within a highly innovative, international environment while familiarising themselves with the operations and core activities of the European space sector. 

New Programme Extension 

Starting with the 2026 edition, the NGT programme includes a new pathway for industry integration where the graduates may choose to pursue their second year in a Luxembourg-based space company. This new extension aims to facilitate the transfer of skills back to the national space ecosystem and to promote the professional integration of young talent within Luxembourgish companies active in the space sector.

Terms of Participation

The NGT programme was created for graduates who:

  • are a) Luxembourgish nationals or b) permanent residents of Luxembourg who hold the nationality of one of the ESA member or cooperating states;
  • earned their degree (Master level) within the past two years.

Students in the last year of their Master’s programme can also apply, under the condition that they will have obtained their Master's degree by the starting date of their traineeship at the ESA.

Duration

A one-year contract (with possible extension to a second year)
